When Shea Baker, freelance writer, picked up a small cluster of knotted threads dropped by an enraged man on his way out of an upscale antiquities gallery, little did he know he would plunged headlong into a mystery of biblical proportions. The threads, later identified as a tassel, purportedly came from the healing cloak of Jesus, a garment that for centuries lay hidden deep in the underground vaults of the Iraq National Museum. Now, the cloak has been found, and it is about to make headlines around the world as it heals the sick.
To some, making this ancient garment available to heal the masses would be an act of compassion. However altruistic, others believe it to be a totally misguided act--one that would instantly fling the world into theological, political, economic and logistical chaos.
Set in Iraq, South Florida, and Jerusalem, the story gives a fascinating look at biblical archaeological history and leads the reader on a hunt for the mysterious relic. Along the way, a number of intriguing characters are introduced, each with his or her own reasons for wanting to possess the power of the ancient healing cloak.
The Spear of Destiny is now available. Follow Shea Baker's lump-in-the-throat escapades as he is once again plunged headlong into a mystery of biblical proportions in The Spear of Destiny, the second in a series of exciting Shea Baker mysteries.
A long hidden secret is about to be uncovered in a little known part of Florida--Lake Okeechobee--and, as usual, Shea Baker is right in the mix when he receives a mysterious object--the head of a spear--and this letter
Dear Mr. Baker,
While some may think your book Holy Land and the story of the re-emergence of the healing cloak of Jesus is purely fictional, I do not. I know it is true. Just like this story. Inside this package, you will find a replica of the head of a spear known to Biblical historians as the “Spear of Destiny.” The original spear held by a Roman guard was used to pierce the side of Jesus as he hung on the cross. After the crucifixion, the spear disappeared. It traveled to several countries, and a number of successful military leaders are said to have possessed it, including Hitler.
Just like the cloak did in your book, the spear has resurfaced and is believed to be in South Florida. A number of very deluded but powerful men still cling to the hope that if they can get their hands on the spear, which they believe is infused with the power of God, the Fourth Reich will rise to power and rule the world—a more powerful rerun of Hitler and the Third Reich. I’m sure you will agree that keeping this from happening is of the utmost urgency.
I will contact you soon to tell you the whole story. Rest assured this is not a hoax.
The Consigned
A watery canal, Burmese python, burning cross, alligator pit, and the Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan are only a few of the obstacles Shea Baker experiences as he searches for the Spear of Destiny.

If you suddenly possessed the power to change the world for what you thought was the best, would you or should you do it? This is the underlying question in "The Cloak," by Sally J. Ling. That Ling is a talented writer, an accomplished researcher and a knowledgeable student of the bible is obvious in this very entertaining read. Thought-provoking, educational and amusing, it's a can't-miss combination. The story has a clever plot involving the discovery of a mysterious ancient tassel, which takes the reader from Florida to Jerusalem, in search of answers. Unlike the typical 'whodunit,' it delves into the question of faith, always interesting to ponder. I particularly enjoyed the congenial main character, Shea Baker, and his relationship with his much-adored wife, Rosa. I look forward to the next Shea Baker Mystery in Ling's series, now in the worksProduct details

The Cloak A Shea Baker Mystery edition by Sally J Ling Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I found this book to be engaging and a fast read as I had a hard time putting it down. I loved that it was not full of spelling errors as so many books are. I remember one, I think.
The ending was good and left it ripe for a sequel, although this story stands alone by itself. I look forward to more from this author.
I was willing to give this book a chance as it was free. Many editing errors and very two dimensional characters. While the Indiana Jones style is fun, there is a lot to be said for people and institutions -religious or otherwise- making things more significant than the Man/God. I trust the next stories will have more depth of character and maybe a bit more scenic description to add to the reader's experience.
This book was an OK read, but I found parts of it a little shallow and just a little too unrealistic for my taste. The premise was good, but I can only suspend reality so far.
I love this book! It consumed my every spare moment! At first the book seemed kind of slow and then all of a sudden, it sucks you in!
A different type of protagonist than I usually read, but this made the story more interesting, not less. I appreciated the insights into the robe that Jesus wore, as well as good descriptions of the areas visited. There were some religious aspects of the book, but it didn't feel preachy.
The Cloak was an excellent read. Shea's character and his adventures were very well thought out and most importantly , well researched. Loved it.
I enjoyed reading this book. I especially liked the adventure in Jerusalem as we were just there this past fall. I could picture the places mentioned. What to do with it would be a hard decision to make if such a cloak with the power to heal still existed. The last chapter sounds like a sequel in the making about a spear with power. Keep writing!
